Sites for self-publishing authors: I’ve done my fair share of trolling around the internet looking for advice from seasoned self-publishing professionals and there are some great sites but these are the 5 that I keep returning to when I encounter an issue I don’t understand or for gentle inspiration.
I whole heartily recommend them and hope they help you as much as they’ve helped me.
1. The Creative Penn
Joanna Penn is an established self publishing author and runs a great website packed full of advice for wanna-be authors full of the knowledge she’s learnt on her self publishing journey. It’s deservedly won many awards and should be your first stop-off-point.
This is a great source of industry information as stated on their site – they are “the first word on the book publishing industry” and a great source of feeds for twitter.
3. The Book Designer
Joel Friedlander has a long career in publishing and book/graphic design and uses that extensive experience to advise would be authors on how to best self publish, design, layout and market their books. His site is packed to the gunwales with useful articles and information that’s bound to inspire you.
4. Jane Friedman
The previous publisher of Writers Digest for 10 years and current editor of Virginia Quarterly Review, Jane Friedman provides clear, insightful advice on all areas of writing, publishing and media.
5. The Write Practice
The main premise of this site is that writers need to write and write and then write a bit more before they perfect their skill. This site is the perfect accompaniment to that philosophy and provides great insight for both new and established writers.
